ABOUT ANDY

I DIDN’T START OUT WITH A CAMERA IN MY HAND.

I spent more than a decade working in air traffic control before turning photography, filmmaking, and marketing into the work I do today.

Now I create photo and video for businesses, schools, events, organizations, families, couples, and people who simply have something worth documenting.

Andy Smith Media is intentionally small. When you hire me, you’re working directly with me from the first conversation through final delivery. I plan it, shoot it, edit it, and make sure what you get actually works for what you’re trying to accomplish.

I’m not interested in making things complicated just to make a production feel bigger than it needs to be. Sometimes the job calls for lights, multiple cameras, audio, drones, and a full setup. Sometimes it just needs one camera, good light, and someone who knows when to press the button.

Either way, the goal is the same: make something good.

A DIFFERENT PATH

I studied air traffic management and spent more than a decade as an FAA air traffic controller and supervisor.

Photography and video started as something I loved doing outside of work. Over time, cameras led to drones, drones led to video, video led to marketing, and eventually the side project became the career.

That background still affects the way I work.

I like being prepared. I’m comfortable when things are moving quickly. I’m used to environments where you don’t get a second chance to capture what’s happening. And when something inevitably changes at the last second, I’m pretty good at figuring it out.

Today, I work across photography, filmmaking, and marketing, which means I’m usually thinking beyond whether something simply looks good. I’m thinking about what the image needs to communicate, who needs to see it, and how it’s actually going to be used.

WHAT I SHOOT

Commercial. Schools. Events. Athletics. Portraits. Families. Graduations. Weddings. Interviews. Brand content. And whatever interesting thing comes next.

I like the variety. One day I might be photographing a business owner for a campaign. The next I’m filming an interview, covering a sporting event, or documenting something that only happens once.

LET’S MAKE SOMETHING WORTH SHOWING.

If you have a project, an event, a business, a person, or a story that matters to you, tell me about it.
